HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Facing a one and a half billion dollar projected budget gap in the next fiscal year, Governor Ned Lamont is considering extending the state sales tax.

The Lamont administration is reportedly considering extending the sales tax to include groceries, medications, and other items that are currently tax-exempt.

A spokesman for the Governor's Budget Office told The Connecticut Mirror no stone will be left unturned in the effort to balance the budget.

According to reports, state officials have been looking for ways to broaden the sales tax base, while reducing the 6.35% sales tax rate across the board.
