HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - The Hartford Fire Department has honored four civilians and an emergency dispatcher who went above and beyond on the morning of March 7th when fire broke out in an occupied apartment building on Wethersfield Avenue.
Among those being honored is Miguel Angel Rodriguez Jr. who was walking his dogs when he spotted the fire at the Wethersfield Avenue Exclusive Apartments. Rodriguez helped two children escape the building through a window. Hartford Fire Chief Reginald Freeman commended Rodriguez and the others who helped those in danger during the blaze.
"What the gentleman from Metal Industries and Mr. Rodriguez did to actually assist citizens in getting out of that building was nothing short of remarkable."
There were no serious injuries in the blaze, but residents are still displaced. The fire was ruled an arson, and police have made an arrest.
