(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Hartford's police chief is stepping down.

Chief David Rosado is leaving the departmenet after over two decades.

Rosado became chief a little more than a year ago.

A statement from the mayor's office says Rosado will take a job with Pratt and Whitney.

Mayor Luke Bronin thanked the Hartford native for his service, saying the city was fortunate to have someone with a long connection and deep roots lead the men and women of HPD.

Rosado says it's with mixed emotions he's leaving the force but hopes to take the leadership skills he honed in Hartford into his new position.

A national search will be conducted for the next chief.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Thody will serve as interim chief.
