STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police say a New York City man was the victim of Stamford's first homicide of the year. Capt. Richard Conklin on Monday said 26-year-old Stephon Walthrust, of Queens, was shot Saturday evening while sitting in a car in the city's South End. Walthrust was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the office of the chiefmedical examiner says he was shot multiple times in the upper body. No arrests have been made in connection with his death. Walthrust was previously sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to identity theft in Greenwich in 2017. An investigation into his death is ongoing. There were three homicides in Stamford in 2018.

There were no homicides in thecity in 2017, a more than 30-year low.
