KILLINGLY, Conn. (AP) - Firefighters are battling separate blazes that broke out in vacant mill buildings in Connecticut. In Killingly, crews responded early Saturday to a fire at Acme Mill.
Officials say flames broke out in one part of the building and quickly spread to the rest of the former cotton mill.
Residents in the area are being asked to remain in their homes as a precaution. A second fire was reported early Saturday at a former factory about 26 miles away in Windham, and police closed a section of Route 32. No injuries have been reported in either blaze. Crews from several communities in Connecticut and as well as Rhode Island have responded to the fires.
