FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTIC) - Even though a policy group appointed by his transition team recommended electronic highway tolling for all vehicles, not just trucks as he pledged during the campaign, Governor elect Ned Lamont isn't prepared to go there.

Lamont told the WTIC Morning Show the idea of tolling all vehicles in Connecticut is too controversial a decision, repeating his campaign pledge to toll just big rigs.

"We're going to do tractor trailer trucks, just like our neighbor in Rhode Island does," said Lamont. "They're all paying tolls in the states they're coming from, and we're the only ones giving them a freebie, and we can't afford to do that. I'd like to get electronic tolling on those trucks voted on this coming session."

Lamont says try tolling only tractor trailers for five years, and if officials want to revisit the matter later, they can.

The state of Rhode Island is currently being sued for tolling just trucks.
