(New Britain, Conn./WTIC) - Police in New Britain have arrested a city man on child abuse charges.
Detectives say they were first informed by those at the state Department of Children and Families on Sunday.
The 18-month-old female victim was admitted to Connecticut Children's Medical Center for treatment for an unrelated ailment when staff noticed bruising on the child's legs, as well as more severe injuries on her stomach and back.
In addition, she had suffered serious abdominal injuries and a fracture to her right hand that was in the process of healing, according to doctors.
An interview with the child's mother and her boyfriend led officers to arrest 20-year-old Dylan Michael Vitale.
He faces charges of risk of injury, cruelty to persons, and first degree assault. Vitale's bond was set at $250,000.
