HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) – A strike deadline of June 3rd for 25 Connecticut nursing homes has been averted.

The news comes after 1,000 caregivers reached an agreement for a new contract with iCare facilities.  The new contract covers a period of March 2017 through March 2021, with a commitment for significant wage increases each year retroactive to November 2018 through January 2021, plus other benefit considerations.

Union officials are calling the agreement a major victory, as they are confident they can settle all pending contracts for other members in the near future.

The new contract is subject to additional funding in Medicaid nursing home rates in the state budget, which were recently endorsed by Governor Ned Lamont.  Those increases include a two-percent increase this year followed by a one-percent increase in 2020 and again in 2021.
