New Dispute Develops Over Bridgeport Cemetery

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A new dispute is developing over a Connecticut cemetery that had fallen into disrepair.

Just weeks after the families of those buried in Bridgeport's Park Cemetery began restoring the historic graveyard following the dismissal of the previous caretaker, a probate judge has appointed a three-person board to oversee the facility.

Cheryl Jansen, of Shelton, who has family members buried in the cemetery that includes the graves of Civil War veterans, called Judge Paul Ganim's move and "end run around the families."

Ganim tells the Connecticut Post he appointed the board because he wants people knowledgeable about running a cemetery in charge. They include a funeral home owner and a monument company owner.

Jansen says those people have done business with the cemetery's ousted manager, which she calls unethical.
