HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Electric rates are now higher for most Connecticut residents. The standard service generation part of the utility bill has increased by 19 percent for Eversource households and by 24 percent for United Illuminating customers.
State Consumer Counsel Elin Katz says people considering shopping around for electricity should take a close look at the terms being offered.
"Don't make a snap judgment on the phone, or when someone comes to your door," she advised. "I strongly recommend that consumers look at the rate board, which is at Connecticut PURA's website, which you can also find at Energize CT, and you can actually compare prices there."
