20 Test Positive For Covid-19 In Westport

(Westport, Conn./WTIC) - Westport's first selectman is declaring a Local Civil Preparedness Emergency after 20 town residents tested positive for COVID-19.

Jim Marpe says in addition to Governor Lamont's edict to close restaurants, gyms and bars, all nail and hair salons will serve by appointment only.

Westport-Weston Health executive director Mark Cooper says 31 people were tested for the virus with 20 of those tests coming back positive.  He says that only highlights the fact that the virus has taken a foothold in the community and precautions are more important than ever.

Marpe says he's urging residents to stay at home if at all possible and follow all protocols including hand washing and social distancing.
