(Providence, Conn./WTIC) - The American Athletic Conference has announced it has canceled its men's basketball tournament that was to have tipped off today in Fort Worth, TX.
Commissioner Mike Aresco says in a statement that they made the decision based on consultation with conference leadership in light of recent developments surround the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Aresco calls it a proactive decision "to protect the safety, health, and well-being of out student-athletes, coaches, and staff" and all involved with the tournament.
Fifth-seeded UConn was to have begun tournament play this afternoon with a game the number 12 seed Tulane.
