Hartford, Conn.(WTIC Radio)-Connecticut  Attorney General William Tong has escalated his legal actions to hold Eversource and United Illuminating accountable for what he calls their failed storm response.Tong today filed motions before the Public Utilities and Regulatory Authority to seek claims  against the two utilities.  PURA by law serves as the principal regulator and legal forum in which to bring those claims.  Tong is demanding that PURA open a contested case and prudence review. He says that allows him to make the strongest claims on behalf of ratepayers  and the state. The Attorney General says he is pursuing fines, penalties and injunctive relief, and to oppose the utilities' requests for profits and reimbursement of storm-related costs.Tong says the legal pursuit involves a trial-like proceeding to hold the utilities accountable. "You would have thought the utilities learned from the storms of 2011 and  2012. They blew it and its inexcusable,"  he said.
