(WTIC-AM) -- Amazon is expected to almost double its employment in the state, when it opens a new warehouse shipping center in North Haven at the end of next month.
The online retailer will add 1,800 full time positions.
Amazon North Haven Operations Director Richard Dyce described how merchandise is tagged with a bar code, scanned and tracked by computer, and stored in large stacks of yellow bins that are moved around by orange robots.
To attract Amazon, the state offered $25-million worth of tax incentives and North Haven granted a break on local taxes for seven years.
Amazon already has a similar large fulfillment center in Windsor, and smaller facilities in Wallingford, Bristol, and Hartford.
