Arrest Made in Hartford Teen Homicide

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Hartford Police arrest a city resident on Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager earlier this month.

Officials arrested Edwin Franqui, 24, in Bloomfield in connection with the death of Junny Lara-Velazquez, 19, of Hartford on July 6.

Investigators allege Franqui opened fire on Lara-Velazquez while the victim was driving a car near the Hartford-West Hartford city line. The gunfire injured one passenger. Another passenger was not injured. Hartford Police add that Franqui is a previously convicted felon who cannot legally possess a firearm.

Franqui faces murder, accessory to murder, and first-degree assault charges linked to the July 6 shooting.

During the arrest, Police further charged Franqui with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine, weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of narcotics.

Franqui remains held on a total of $2,000,000.00 bond.
