HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Neither major political party managed to flip a seat in the Connecticut House of Representatives in two special elections held Tuesday.Democrat Brian Smith defeated Republican Mark DeCaprio in the 48th District, covering parts of Colchester, Lebanon, Mansfield and Windham. Opponents of highway tolls supported DeCaprio, and tried to position the race as a referendum on tolls. The House seat was left vacant by the death of longtime Democrat Rep. Linda Organge.In Fairfield, Republican Brian Farnen defeated Democrat Jennifer Leeper in the 132nd District. The seat was vacated by Republican Rep. Brenda Kupchick, who was elected Fairfield's first selectman in November.
