WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ The Connecticut Department of Labor has been able to secure pay for several hundred McDonald's employees in Fairfield and Darien.
264 employees at three McDonald's restaurants at service plazas along Interstate 95 in Fairfield and Darien were owed backpay ranging in individual checks from $13.73.00 to $12,496.28. The D.O.L. says Mitchell Enterprises LLC of New Canaan, the owner of the franchises, owed a total of $870,541.000 in wages and interest. The company was found to be in violation of paying standard wage rates for certain service workers. The money has since been distributed to the employees.
D.O.L. Commissioner Westby released a statement saying "A fair day's wage for a fair day's work is the minimum responsibility of an employer. I'm pleased that once presented with the issue at hand Mitchell Enterprises LLC honored that responsibility, paid the back wages they owed and corrected and made right by their workers. I also want to thank Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 32BJ, for their commitment to stand with these workers, advocate on their behalf, and protect their rights to fair wages and a just workplace."
