(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Milder temperatures and low humidity have helped to push the state's forest fire danger level to HIGH in some parts today.
Firefighters had their hands full with several blazes around the state on Wednesday.
One fire sparked by wood stove ash broke out and covered an acre in Hampton.
In Ledyard, a half dozen structures were threatened when a fire there scorched nearly 2.5 acres. That fire was caused by illegal brush burning, officials said.
And in Wolcott, a fire burned seven acres, the cause of which is still unknown.
Fire danger today is HIGH in Hartford, Tolland, Windham and Litchfield Counties.
The level is MODERATE along the state's four southern counties.
Residents are reminded to obey local burning laws and carefully extinguish charcoal residue and other smoking materials.
