(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - Police in New Haven were busy over the weekend cracking down on illegal street racing.
The initiative went into effect at sundown on Saturday and continued into the overnight.
It was in response to numerous complaints by citizens recently of drag racing, reckless driving and other motor vehicle offenses at several locations.
Officers patrolled areas including Long Wharf Drive, Sargent Drive, Foxon and Ella T. Grasso Boulevards.
All told, police issued 16 misdemeanor summonses and 18 tickets.
In addition, nine vehicles were towed. There were also two custodial arrests and five drug arrests.
Police Chief Otoniel Reyes says the department increase enforcement effort pertaining to so-calle quality of life crimes.
