HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Through a FEMA grant, Connecticut will be able to provide an additional $300 per week for residents who are unemployed due to COVID-19.
Tuesday, FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor approved Connecticut for a grant under the Lost Wages Assistance program, allowing the state to provide the additional $300 per week on top of regular unemployment benefits.
According to FEMA officials, people will be required to self-certify that they are unemployed or partially unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those eligible include people who are currently eligible for at least $100 per week in unemployment insurance compensation, including regular state or federal unemployment compensation, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), Short-Time Compensation, Trade Readjustment Allowance, and payments under the Self-Employment Assistance program.
President Donald Trump made available up to $44 billion from FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund on August 8 to provide financial assistance to those who became unemployed amid the pandemic, according to officials.
Connecticut is one of thirty states that has been approved for a lost wages grant.
