ENFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A cloud of carbon dioxide caused up a dozen homes to be evacuated in Enfield Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to the Thompsonville section of town shortly before 5:30 a.m. after a resident reported the cloud, said fire officials.

The cloud also prompted the closure of the Route 190 bridge over the Connecticut River and the suspension of Amtrak service for a time.

The gas vapor was traced to a faulty valve at Esquire Gas on Spring St., said fire officials. The leak was stopped and residents allowed to return to their homes by 7 a.m.

No injuries are reported.
