HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hartford police say two children were found safe after a mother mistakenly believed they were in her car when it was stolen.Officials say the two girls, ages 8 and 9, were in the car Tuesday morning when the woman stopped for a short time at a day care center. When the woman returned from the day care center near Barbour and Risley streets, her car and the two girls-- her daughter and niece-- were gone, so she called 911, said police.Police determined the girls had gotten out of the car before it was stolen. One boarded a school bus; the other got a ride to school from a family friend, said police. The car was later found behind an apartment building on Gillette Street, where the driver allegedly rammed a police cruiser twice. An officer wrestled a loaded handgun away from Elijah Jorden, 19, of East Hartford, said police. Jorden faces a slew of charges including third-degree larceny, assault on police, and possession of a pistol without a permit.
