HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hartford Police say a 23-year-old man suspected of stabbing his girlfriend and kidnapping her son was arrested Wednesday morning in New York City.
Twenty-three-year-old Edgar Manuel Maldonado allegedly stabbed the unidentified woman approximately 30 times in front of her six-year-old son inside a car early Tuesday.
Police found the woman on Natick street in Hartford, covered in blood and screaming for help. Maldonado had fled with her son in the car by time police arrived, according to authorities.
Following a nationwide alert, the boy and car were found by police in Worcester, Massachusetts, around 5:30 a.m.
The victim remains in critical, but stable, condition following emergency surgery in Hartford Hospital.
Maldonado was being held by the NYPD as a fugitive, facing extradition back to Connecticut. Hartford police hold a warrant for him. He faces attempted murder, assault, risk of injury and kidnapping charges.
