GROTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Groton Police arrested a high school student for falsely reporting a threat after an officer received a tip that a student was in possession of a gun and a bomb Wednesday, according to officials.
Fitch High School officials notified a school resource officer of the potential threat at around 8:45 a.m. which, police say, was information given to the school department through an anonymous tip.
Police say members of the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions immediately responded to the school and set up security measures as they conducted their investigation.
In interviewing witnesses, police say a juvenile suspect was identified. Police say the student had intentionally falsely reported the threat and confirmed the details were not credible.
Police arrested the student with falsely reporting an incident, threatening and breach of peace. Officials say the student was given a juvenile court referral and then released to their guardian.
Authorities say there is currently no threat to the school.
