(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - Police in New Haven are charging a man after they say he broke into a city restaurant and helped himself to food and liquor over the course of several days.
Officers say they were tipped off to a burglary in progress Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. at a Crown Street restaurant.
The caller reported finding 42-year-old Louis Angel Ortiz asleep in the eatery.
He was later spotted by police, who detained him while possessing a bottle of rum from the business.
Investigators say they culled through surveillance footage to find that Ortiz had helped himself to food and booze from the restaurant over a four day period.
The business had been closed at the time and the manager was conducting a routine check.
Ortiz is charged with burglary, larceny, criminal mischief and a failure to appear count on an East Haven warrant.
Bond was set at $12,500.
The restaurant's management says the burglary cost them several thousand dollars along with the theft or consumption of about 70 bottles of liquor.
