TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Torrington police say the suspect who vowed to turn himself in, if he got some social media love, and then broke that promise, is now in custody.
It has been nearly a month since police say 30-year-old Jose Simms promised to turn himself in, on failure to appear charges, if his "wanted" poster got 15,000 likes on Facebook. It easily surpassed that, but Simms didn't keep up his end of the bargain, until Wednesday.
Torrington police say Simms contacted Enfield police and surrendered himself early Wednesday at a local recreation area.
The original Facebook post continues to get attention-- up to nearly 27,000 "likes" and 2,000 "ha-ha's" as of Wednesday morning.
