
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Metropolitan District Commission customers should prepare to pay more for water next year.The regional water and sewer authority is proposing a nearly 15 percent increase in water rates for its eight member towns.Under the MDC's proposed 2020 budget, the water rate would increase from $3.50 to $4.01 per hundred cubic feet of water The increase would apply to customers in Hartford, East Hartford, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Newington, Bloomfield, Rocky Hill and Windsor.Costs have been on the rise since the authority launched a $2 billion state-mandated Clean Water Project. The MDC board is poised to adopt its budget for next year on Dec. 2.The proposed increase has roiled some state lawmakers who want state utility regulators to have a role in reviewing proposed rate hikes.
