MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Authorities arrested a Middletown man Tuesday for a hit and run incident that killed a woman on March 4.

Middletown police took Jerod Wilson, 34, into custody Tuesday morning on several charges based on evidence that police say showed Wilson was the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed Brooke Rich.

At the intersection of High Street and Washington Street, police say witnesses reported seeing Rich crossing the street when the crash occurred.

Police say Wilson's car was traveling at a high rate of speed and didn't stop for the red light at the intersection as Rich crossed while the crosswalk signal was illuminated.

After striking Rich, Wilson continued driving on Washington Street, according to police.

Officials say though Wilson initially told police he was not driving the car that struck Rich, Middletown Detectives and Traffic unit officers later found video that showed Wilson in the vehicle that struck Rich several minutes before the accident.

Wilson is being held on a $500,000 bond with eight charges including manslaughter in the first degree and evading responsibility of a fatal motor vehicle accident.

A court date of April 1 has been set for Wilson.
