(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - Popular New Haven police Captain Anthony Duff is back on the job.

The department's public face as its chief spokesman was critically wounded last August while coming to the aid of an eventual homicide victim.

The department tweeted out a photo of Duff in uniform addressing officers during roll call today, along with the message "First Day Back--WELCOMING CAPTAIN DUFF".

Duff was shot multiple times on August 12 while off duty.

He had come upon a shootout in the area of Henry Street and Dixwell Avenue.

Killed in the gunfire was 46-year-old Troy Clark of West Haven.

Duff spent more than a week in Yale New Haven Hospital, walking out August 23 amid a large gathering of his fellow officers.
