
(New London, Conn./WTIC) - New London is the latest southeastern Connecticut community to curtail outdoor activities as a result of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus.
City officials say as a precaution, all city sponsored or supervised outdoor activities must end at dusk, around 6:15 p.m.
The move comes on the heels of the an East Lyme resident recently sickened by the mosquito-borne illness.
Mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk.
Recently, several surrounding towns announced similar measures to prevent residents from being susceptible to bites from disease-carrying mosquitoes.
