(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - New Haven's police chief if recommending the firing of one of his officers following a use of force incident involving a handcuffed man earlier this year.
An internal investigation found that Officer Jason Santiago kicked the man in the groin as the suspect lay on the ground, then punched him in the face after the officer was spat on back on March 10 in the city's Fair Haven section.
New Haven Police Chief Ontoniel Reyes says he'll recommend Santiago's firing at a hearing of the Board of Police Commissioners June 16.
The Litchfield County state's attorney's office is continuing its investigation.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, who viewed a video of the incident, called Santiago's conduct "reprehensible".
