LEDYARD, CT (WTIC Radio)_ Connecticut State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Ledyard.

Ledyard Police attempted to stop an unidentified man who nearly drove his car into a police cruiser on Sunday night, around 11:24 p.m.

Officers began to pursue the man who they say would not stop his vehicle, continuing to drive on Route 214 Westbound and Route 117 Southbound.

The driver entered a residential driveway on Reservoir View and drove around the house to the backyard where the operator continued to drive erratically.

Police say he allegedly headed toward an officer who had exited their cruiser.

Two responding Ledyard officers then fired their pistols and struck the driver.

The vehicle then drove into a wooded area and stopped against a tree.

After being transported to L&M Hospital in New London, the driver was later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital. He has been listed in critical condition.

Police are investigating and have released no names at this time.
