The Stow, Massachusetts group that owned the classic B-17 bomber that crashed at Bradley Airport, killing seven people, has suspended flight operations.
In a statement posted online Friday night, the Collings Foundation said it's "currently suspending its flight operaitons and the Wings of Freedom Tour" for the rest of this year.
Federal investigators say that the World War II-era plane faltered after takeoff Wednesday, then, while attempting an emergency landing, slammed into a runway deicing facility, bursting into flames.
The National Transportation Safety Board has heard from witnesses who saw a crew member on the tarmac just before takeoff, looking at one or two engines.
One engine failed minutes into the flight, forcing a return to the airport.
The Collings Foundation, which holds an extensive collection of antique planes, race cars, tanks and more, says it's cooperating with the federal investigation into the incident.
