Police ID Victims In Fatal Fire

COVENTRY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - One person is dead and another is injured following a late Sunday night house fire in Coventry.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 821 Main Street shortly before midnight to find resident Basil Brackett outside the home with serious burns, said police. He was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment and then transferred to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital.

Firefighters entered the dwelling and removed another person, identified as Cecilia Brackett, said police. She was pronounced dead at the scene, said authorities.

The couple owned the home, which was built in 1975.

The fire was contained to one room with heat and smoke damage throughout the remainder of the home, said police. There were working smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Office of the Coventry Fire Marshal. The State Fire Marshal is assisting the Coventry Fire Marshal’s Office.
