
WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A Meriden man was struck and killed after exiting his vehicle to apparently pick up a bottle for redemption Wednesday afternoon in Wallingford, police said.Leonard James, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Yale Avenue, near the intersection with Old Yale Avenue shortly after 3:30 p.m., said authorities.Police say James had exited his 2019 GMC Terrain, crossed the street to pick up an object-- apparently a bottle, and was hit by a Subaru as he tried to walk back across the busy street to return to his vehicle.The driver of the Subaru, a 66-year-old Meriden man, has not been charged.Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Wallingford police.
