Police Say Pedestrian Struck by Tractor-Trailer has Succumbed to Injuries

Hartford, Conn. (WTIC) – A pedestrian that was struck by a tractor-trailer in Hartford on Thursday has succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred on High Street and Walnut Street at 4:04 Thursday afternoon.  77-year old Carl Loven was attempting to cross Walnut Street when he was struck by a tractor-trailer turning west onto the street from southbound High Street, near the I-84 W on-ramp.


When police found Loven, he was alive, but unresponsive.  He was then rushed to Saint Francis Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The operator of the tractor-trailer remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators.

Friday afternoon, Loven succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Saint Francis Hospital. 

Hartford Police Crime Scene Division detectives and staff are still investigating the incident, as video footage captured by C4 personnel is aiding in the crash reconstruction.

This marks the first traffic collision fatality of the 2019 calendar year.  No charges have been filed in the incident.
