MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - State police continue their stepped-up holiday weekend traffic patrols, which began Wednesday morning.As of Saturday morning, troopers had made 36 arrests for driving under the influence, including four where crashes were involved.In all, troopers have investigated more than 260 accidents, including two involving fatalities. On Thursday evening, a rear-end crash on Route 72 in Plainville claimed the life of Waleska Otero, 26, of Bristol, said police. They did not provide details of the second fatal crash, which occurred Friday afternoon in Norwalk.As of 7 a.m. Saturday, troopers had issued 267 speeding tickets, 17 seat belt tickets and 868 tickets for hazardous moving violations. Overall, state police have handled nearly 4,700 calls for service including nearly 200 motorist assists.Enhanced enforcement runs through Sunday.
