MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education has approved a 2.1 percent increase in tuition and fees for students at the state's 12 community colleges. The increase, effective next fall, amounts to roughly $92 more per year for full-time in-state students.
Regents previously approved a 5 percent increase for students at the four regional universities.
The system has also received some more bad budget news. A projected deficit for next fiscal year has grown from $22.7 million to $33 million. Regents Finance Committee Chairman Richard Balducci says increased pension costs are among the driving factors.
It's still unclear how much state support the Connecticut Colleges and Universities System will receive, as budget deliberations continue at the Capitol.
