MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Friday marks ten years since six people were killed in an explosion at the Kleen Energy power plant in Middletown.The blast occurred on a cold Sunday morning, as crews were using natural gas to clear debris from a line at the under-construction plant.The massive explosion could be felt for miles around."It was just a horrible day in terms of the human tragedy," said Sebastian Giuliano, who was Middletown's mayor at the time. "When people who go to work every day to support their families ... they expect they're going to come home."On Sunday, officials will gather to honor the six men who were killed int he blast: Peter C. Chepulis, Ronald J. Crabb, Raymond E. Dobratz, Kenneth W. Haskell, Jr., Roy D. Rushton and Vance C. Walters.The memorial is set for 11 a.m. on River Road in Middletown, near the site of the explosion.
