(Waterbury, Conn./WTIC) - The New Britain state's attorney says a Waterbury police officer was justified in using deadly force during an encounter with a suspect last winter.
Police say they were called by the landlord to the scene of a duplex on Craigie Avenue on January 20 on a report of a bullet hole in the wall of 57-year-old Edward Gendron's home, which was next door to that of another residence within the complex.
The state's attorney's report says a struggle ensued between Gendron, who was facing eviction and Officer Ronald Tompkins.
During the struggle, Tompkins tried to gain control of a gun Gendron had brandished at officers.
Tompkins shot Gendron with his service weapon, believing his life was in danger, according to the report.
