RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Police in Ridgefield are investigating after people tried to dry out a wet baseball field Saturday morning, by dousing it with more than 24 gallons of gasoline, and setting it ablaze.

The effort, at Governor Park, did not work out as intended, and now the cleanup costs could top $50,000, according to First Selectman Rudy Marconi.

No one was hurt. Town officials were awaiting the results of environmental testing Monday morning. The field may be closed for the week, they said.
