(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Youth suicide is expected to be an issue addressed during this upcoming state legislative session.

Senate Democratic leaders have spent the week laying out their proposed agenda.

Senator James Maroney says he was alarmed at statistics that showed a 50-percent increase in the number of youth suicides over the last decade.

Maroney says he's already had a conversation with someone close to him, reassuring his own son that he can come to him if he or a peer has a problem.

Maroney says, among other things, they want to do a better job publicizing outlets that offer assistance, including the state's 211 line and also work to add teeth to laws surrounding cyberbullying.
