State To Enter Into Settlement In Sheff School Desegregation Case

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - There's word that the state is poised to enter into a settlement in the long-running Sheff v. O'Neill school desegregation case.Connecticut Attorney General William Tong was poised to present a settlement at Hartford Superior Court Friday afternoon. His office says it will place the state on a pathway to end 30 years of litigation over hoe to best reduce racial isolation in Hartford schoolsIt was the Sheff case, and a 1996 State Supreme Court decision, that resulted in the network of more than 40 inter-district magnet schools in the Hartford region, but litigation has continued over quotas and other issues.Attorney General Tong, Governor Lamont, and other officials were set to meet the press, after the hearing.
