(Storrs, Conn./WTIC) - UConn is announcing that it's pausing all football activities after several student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement, the university said six players had tested positive for coronavirus.

Given that, athletic director David Benedict says putting the brakes on activities is the best course of action.

The only activities that will be allowed for those not in medical quarantine or isolation will be strength and conditioning training in small groups.

Teams meetings will continue to be held virtually.

UConn announced earlier this summer that it was canceling competition for the 2020-21 academic year.
