(WTIC-AM) -- A Windsor Locks man was formally charged with murder and attempted murder today.
Antwon Barnes was charged and arraigned while in his bed at Hartford Hospital.
Barnes is accused of killing the current boyfriend of a woman he had once been involved with.
Barnes was on his way to practice shooting at a gun range in Newington, so he had a handgun in a holster on his right hip.
While leaving his apartment building, he happened to walk past his former girlfriend, and the woman's current boyfriend.
The woman lived in the same apartment building as Barnes
Police say Barnes shot the new boyfriend and also grabbed his former girlfriend, pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger, but the weapon did not fire.
Barnes then pulled a second firearm out of a bag, and resumed shooting the boyfriend.
He allegedly told his former girlfriend that he was going to take her with him, but she said no, and reminded him about the 8-year-old son they had together.
Barnes then let her go and fled, eventually turning himself in to police.
Thirty-five year-old Leroy Jefferson's body was found at the rear door of the apartment building on Old County Road.
