NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC) – New Haven Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Friday night on the Tomlinson Bridge on Forbes Avenue between East Street and Stiles Street.
A motor vehicle fled the scene after striking a scooter with two riders. The crash scene included the car’s front bumper, the scooter and two riders lying in the road.
The two victims were males, ages 15 and 18 were transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. Shortly after, the 18-year old was pronounced deceased and the 15-year-old was listed in critical condition.
Officers later located and stopped the offending vehicle and detained a 55-year old female operator. The operator is an East Haven resident and was transported by ambulance with a police guard to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The New Haven Accident Reconstruction Unit held the scene of the incident overnight where a portion of Forbes Avenue was closed – it has since reopened.
Police have spoken to a number of witnesses, however, any witness of the incident that has not spoken to police are asked to call the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6316.
