HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut prosecutors have launched an effort to ban the public release of documents such as the writings of the Sandy Hook Elementary School gunman. Chief State's Attorney Kevin Kane's office has proposed legislation in response to a state Supreme Court ruling in October that ordered the disclosure of shooter Adam Lanza's personal belongings. The legislature's Judiciary Committee has scheduled a public hearing on the bill Wednesday. Lanza killed 20 first-graders, six educators and himself at the Newtown school on Dec. 14, 2012. Kane says people's personal property should not be released to the public if an arrest is never made. Public records advocates argue the release of Lanza's writings was important because they offered insights into a mass killer's mind and could be used to prevent future mass shootings.
