HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Tuition is going up next fall at Central, Eastern, Southern, and Western Connecticut State Universities.
The Board of Regents has unanimously approved a five percent tuition increase at the four schools. Room and food service fees are also rising, two and a half and three point six percent, respectively.
Connecticut State Colleges and Universities President Mark E. Ojakian explained that commuter students will see an increase of $479 per year, while residential students' fees will go up by about $869 annually.
Even with the increases and cost cutting, Ojakian said the universities will have to tap into $10 million in reserve funds to break even. That total is subject to change, depending on the final state budget.
