State Police Arrest Sherman Man on Charges of Murder, Tampering with Evidence

SHERMAN, Conn. (WTIC) – State Police have made an arrest after responding to a call at 99 Church Road in Sherman.

James Maharg placed the call to 911 reporting that an individual living in the residence had fallen and struck his head on a countertop.  Upon arrival, police discovered the person who fell was deceased.  Additionally, responders noted several suspicious circumstances at the scene.


Because of those circumstances, the Western District Major Crime Squad and the Danbury State Attorney were requested to respond to the scene.

After an extensive investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for James Maharg.  The 65-year old was charged with Murder and Tampering with/or Fabricating Physical Evidence.

His bond was set at $2,000,000.
