(Thomaston, Conn./WTIC) - Officials in one town have issued an advirsory regarding a local pond.
The Torrington Area Health District is advising those who frequent Nystrom's Pond of an elevated concentration of E. coli bacteria in the water.
The message on the town's web site suggests swimmers use the pond at their own risk for the time being.
It goes on to say that those who do swim in the pond refrain from submerging their heads in the water and also avoid ingestion.
Bathers are advised to shower in clean water should they decide to go in Nystrom's Pond.
E. coli can cause possible gastrointestinal issues, as well as the risk of ear, nose and throat infections.
Town officials in Thomaston say they plan to retest the water in Nystrom's at some point later this week.
